Throughout 2020, our focus has been on operating our apartment communities at an elite level, remaining open for business, and providing excellent customer service. Our ability to do those three things continues to fund our non-profit endeavors.
Our ability to give back has earned us major recognition in Dayton. Today, The Connor Group was nominated as a Business of the Year nominee in the community supporter category. Additionally, Larry earned the Dayton Business Journal’s Philanthropy Award.
Here are three major initiatives that earned us recognition:
- $1.5 million in small business loans to minority and women-owned businesses
- $387,514 food distributions to DECA students and their families
- 50 Wi-Fi hotspots to help Dayton students connect to distance learning
Program manager Sharla Pyle led the food distribution program, rising to the occasion and building a system to efficiently serve 165 families per week, providing a total of 263,340 meals.
“When we were working through this initiative Ryan (Ernst) asked me, ‘Do your kids know how successful you’ve been at running these programs?’ I told him my kids are proud of what we’re doing, but we wouldn’t have this opportunity without Larry’s generosity and the hard work of every Connor Group associate,” Sharla said. “The most common phrase in my house is ‘Mom, you seriously have the greatest job in the whole world.’”
Every property sale, starting with Fund XII, fuels Kids and Community partners. Over the next decade, Kids and Community Partners plans to do a more than $250 million in non-profit work to help kids and underserved communities.
“It comes down to our associates executing their jobs at a high level,” Larry said. “Their ability to re-engineer properties in 12-36 months, increase the NOI and position them to sell for incredible returns allows us to continue doing great work in the community.”
This is the second consecutive year The Connor Group has earned nominations for Business of the year. Business of the year winners will be revealed Nov. 11 during the virtual awards event.
