Pushing the limit

Financial analyst Josh Staley ran the numbers in Excel and in minutes it added up to $2 million. This is the amount of money The Connor Group saved when Josh proposed a change to our refinance transactions.

Earlier this month, Josh’s boss, partner Brock Wright received an email from Josh confirming he secured a new agreement with one of our biggest lenders, Freddie Mac. Josh got our lender to agree to change their 3-year interest rate cap requirement down to a 2-year interest cap. The negotiated change requires The Connor Group to pay less money at the time of a refinance. Josh’s efforts saved us $2 million, which deserves recognition.

Brock walked right over to Josh’s office and congratulated him on the achievement and poked fun at how nonchalant he was acting about it.

“Josh has taken ownership of his role,” Brock said. “He holds himself accountable. Josh didn’t wait for me to attack this problem. He just sent me an email and said it’s done.”

Josh said this scenario made him think “What would Larry do when trying to raise the bar?“

“Larry is a person that doesn’t settle for the status quo,” Josh said. “You don’t do something just because that’s the way it’s always done.”

This mindset set Josh up for success. He was confident approaching Freddie Mac with this new agreement.

“I think I’ve gotten more comfortable talking to lenders as I’ve grown in my role and watching Brock and how he interacts with them,” Josh said.

Four days after Josh shared the good news with Brock, the team was brought together for an R&R presentation. Josh was rewarded with front-row midfield tickets to the World Cup qualifier between U.S.A. and Mexico at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati.

Josh is a huge soccer fan, but he didn’t bother putting the tickets on his wish list on the Loop. The game was only weeks away and tickets were pricey, so he was really surprised when he received the tickets.

“The fact that Brock knew me well enough to go outside of my R&R list, speaks to the strong relationships he builds with his team and how he lives our People Count core value.”

The US men’s national team defeated Mexico 2-0 (DOS A CERO!). We’ll call it a win-win.
