Dunking in Denver

Three months ago, partner and executive assistant Tina Austin documented a bet between partners and SMTs Jessica Clark and Brad Dykes.

Jessica bet on her people at Alas Over Lowry; Brad bet on his people at L2 Uptown. The bet: whoever’s team was the first to 93-percent physical occupancy was the winner. The stakes: the loser had to travel to the winner’s property to be dunked in a dunking booth.

Our associates don’t shy away from competition. So Alas Over Lowry property manager Ben Glover and sales manager Vicki Getz began to climb the ladder from 75-percent physical occupancy.

“We were just straight up failing at the start of the bet,” Vicki said. “Brad questioned if we could do it here or not, so I took it very personal and needed to prove him wrong. It turned into a movement with my team – #ProvingBradWrong.”

L2 Uptown property manger Valerie Moreno was fighting for her team on the other side. She motivated her team to dig itself  out of a 67-percent physical occupancy.

“When you have a talented and engaged group of people and stay within our systems, you’ll get the results,” regional head Dan Pisegna said. “It won’t happen overnight, but they saw the long-term success and accomplished their goals.”

As a result, L2 has driven 1,189 pieces of traffic to date with a net gain of 100. Alas has recorded 1,087 pieces of traffic and has posted a net gain of 108.

The two properties reached 93 percent in the same week. But Alas, due in large part of the efforts of lead sales associate Brooke Kovaleski, hit first. Brad hopped on a plane to Denver to sit in the dunking booth.

“We got the dunking booth and Vicki got the popcorn machine, cotton candy machines and some vendors who brought dog treats and sodas,” Jessica said. “I threw the first ball because it was my bet and Brad went right under.”
