Gridiron greatness

It was your typical chilly Sunday afternoon in November. While the Chicago Bears were facing off against the Miami Dolphins, two other teams were in attendance. Connor Group associates from Stonebridge Village and Wheaton 121 gathered at Soldier Field in Chicago for a well-deserved R&R event.

Four months ago, CEO Bob Lloyd and managing partner Larry Connor announced our long-term strategy to exit the Chicago market. It was a decision that was not taken lightly, especially because of the dedicated associates who have made success possible in the face of difficult market conditions.

“Frankly, we’ve really struggled in the Chicago market,” said Larry. “But it’s not because of our people. Thanks to Bob, Brad Dykes and others, we’ve built a strong core group of associates there.”

Since the announcement, this core group continues to operate at a high level. They’re responsible for the successful sale of Tapestry Glenview in August, they achieved the highest monthly revenue amount for Stonebridge Village at $1.1 million in October, and they’re exceeding NOI for both Stonebridge and Wheaton 121. To top it off, just this week we announced a signed contract for the upcoming sale of Stonebridge Village this December.

As the team prepares to move on to other markets, Bob, Brad, and partner and senior property manager Michelle Murphy felt the time was right to get everyone together for a memorable outing.

“It has been a full team effort to remain disciplined and committed to our systems,” said Michelle. “Everyone has truly come together with respect for one another.”

To recognize the effort, the entire Chicago market was invited to take in the Bears game this past Sunday. Only it wasn’t your traditional gameday experience. The guests of honor were treated to two executive suites, including endless food and drink. But the party didn’t end there. Associates were able to invite their spouses as well.

“It was important for us to extend the invitation to spouses,” said Michelle. “Without their support, our team would not be able to see the success it has to this day.”

While it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all in attendance, the moment was extra special for turn tech Lupe Gutierrez. Lupe grew up a dedicated Chicago sports fan, but the Bears hold a special place in his heart as his favorite team. Like others, he had never been to a game quite like this.

“It’s an experience I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top,” said Lupe. “All the food and drinks you could want, and great people to spend time with.”

As the biggest Bears fan of the group, Lupe made sure everyone was enjoying the event.

“Lupe was hilarious,” said partner Courtney Dies. “ He really brought the energy!”

While it was a rewarding experience on the surface, Michelle finds it motivating more than anything else.

“It’s critical we have moments like these as our associates relocate to other markets,” said Michelle. “It’s a great reminder of what our culture looks like in action.”
