‘He makes a difference’

When partner and senior vice president of operations Brad Dykes sat down to talk about lead tech Freddy Martinez, he said it’s easier to name the markets in which Freddy has not made an impact.

“His willingness to always say yes and find a way to go and support not just his property, not just the people he knows, but wherever he’s needed, inspires me every day,” Brad said.

Freddy earned Partner promotion today at the Chicago August Awards Breakfast.

One of the most impressive things about Freddy is his customer service skills. Over the last 90 days, Wheaton 121 has a 4.37 overall customer survey score.

“The fact that he’s kept a 5/5 star on our work order response time on our customer survey is unbelievable,” said partner and senior manager Jenein Sous.

Part of Freddy’s greatness is his ability to remain positive, no matter the situation.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen him frown or make a mad face,” said partner and director of learning and development Courtney Dies. “He goes into every situation, takes his positivity, has a solution mindset, and finds a way to succeed.”

Brad recognized Freddy’s partner mindset after sending him to West Village in Durham, which we sold in 2021.

“The moment I realized he would make a great partner was when I sent him to West Village, and in the course of about a month, he turned 45 apartments,” Brad said. “Erica called me and said, ‘Hey, you’re never getting him back. I’m kidnapping him and he’s staying with me forever.’ I knew he had the right mindset to be a partner.”

In 2021, two of Freddy’s family members joined the team at Wheaton. His dad, Francisco Martinez is an upgrade tech and his brother George Martinez works on grounds.

“I’m looking forward to Freddy’s continued success and impact on the Connor Group, but honestly, the thing I’m most looking forward to is the impact that partnership is going to make on his family,” Courtney said.

Brad is also looking forward to Freddy’s bright future.

“He’s the sort of guy who is going to set the cultural norms for our company forever,” Brad added. “I can’t wait for all of the future team we hire to see him as a role model because he makes a difference, not just for himself, but for everyone around him.”

Congratulations, Freddy!
