Learning to lead

Being able to overcome obstacles and take on new challenges is part of what makes Connor Group associates stand out. Operations manager Traci Quetano has had her fair share over the past two and a half years.

Traci started with us in December of 2019. She came from an extensive background in management after spending 12 years with LA Fitness. Her attention to detail, focus on achieving goals, and positive, uplifting attitude stood out during her interview process. She was hired onto the Dallas team specifically to run the new acquisition, Saxon Woods.

Traci was the correct manager we needed. Immediately, she put on her “think like an owner” hat and started making the necessary changes to elevate the property.

“I was super hands-on with projects,” Traci said. “The amenities were run down, and changes needed to be made. To date, we have renovated the splash pad, cabanas, pool furniture, lighting in the dog parks and we are currently working on re-doing the playground. We have also listened to our residents’ number one complaint and replaced all exterior lighting with LED lights to make the property feel safer and more welcoming.”

Since we acquired the property, Traci and the Saxon Woods team have taken the property to the next level. Traci and her team have accomplished the following:

  • Increased average re-rent increase from $57 to $83
  • Most recently in 2021, has over $42,000 in rent roll growth, surpassing all of 2020 by 11,000 already this year.
  • Closing at an average of 34% YTD

The Loop asked Traci to share her most impactful Winners’ Circle Card with us. Here is what she chose…

When did you get it?
October 2020

Who was it from?
Bob Lloyd

Why did you get it?
In the previous 90 days, my SMT & sales manager were both fired. After that, I had to step up from my operations manager role and act like a general manager, all while training three brand new managers.

What does it say?
“I have been very impressed by the progress you have made at Saxon in the past 30 days, and even more in the growth I have seen in your leadership!”

Why was it so impactful?
In my professional career, I’ve never had individuals invest their time in developing me. Bob took that time while he was my SMT. To then get a card recognizing my growth was inspiring and motivating. Going from a company that never recognized anything to a company that recognizes your development along your career journey is huge. It motivated me to keep pushing and reminded me I’m working for the right company and people.
