Overcome with laughter

As Larry prepares for his upcoming trip to the International Space Station, we revisit another video highlight from the National Awards broadcast.

The “Quarantine Message for Larry” skit featured associates sharing motivational messages for Larry to watch while in quarantine ahead of the launch. When this video was scripted, it featured character names like ‘sales associate #1’ and ‘property manager #2.’ It wasn’t until the final draft when actual names of associates were assigned to the roles in the video.

Once the lines in the script were finalized, it became clear who the associates should be to say them. The trick was convincing them to get in front of the camera. Once they did, it didn’t take long for associates to get caught up in the fun.

A last-minute casting addition made for some extra laughs in one particular scene. Originally, the scene featuring partner and senior manager and sales trainer Jennie Juran and partner and director of training Ashley Smith was only scripted for Ashley. The duo’s personalities certainly added humor by including Jennie, but they also added time to the filming process. During what was scheduled to be a 10-minute shoot, Jennie quickly discovered it was going to be difficult to keep a straight face while delivering the lines that were scripted for her.

WATCH: Jennie and Ashley couldn’t keep it together while recording a scene for the National Awards.

“I thought for sure they were going to just cut us out of the video,” said Ashley, referring to the film crew. “There was no way our scene was making it to the broadcast.”

Much to Ashley’s surprise, Jennie’s relentless pursuit of excellence allowed her to power through the laughter and deliver one of the most memorable jokes of the night.
