Ruff R&R

With his mold certification secured, lead tech Harrison Moore settled into the booth at J. Alexanders, ready for an evening of celebration. Joined by partner and senior director Katie Powell, regional vice president Charlie Cannella and partner and senior service trainer Dave Peacock, Harrison was sure the night would be eventful and full of great stories and inside jokes.

Between bites, Harrison casually mentioned how he and his son planned to adopt a golden retriever puppy. Harrison joked that the puppy would be exactly what he wanted for his next R&R. Everyone laughed, but after seeing a photo of the dog on Harrison’s phone, the idea stuck with Katie and Dave. Before dessert arrived, an unspoken plan began to take shape.

Katie and Dave saw the perfect opportunity to reward and recognize one of the Dayton market’s hardest-working techs. When the remnants of Hurricane Helene swept through, Harrison became Katie’s go-to resource, leading cleanup efforts and tackling storm damage like downed trees. His dedication has been a driving force behind the Dayton market’s success, and giving him the gift of a new furry best friend was a fitting tribute to his efforts.

“Dave asked, ‘so what about that dog?’ I said ‘we should definitely get it for him,’” Katie explained. “He suggested we just give Harrison money toward it, but I said ‘No! Let’s just buy the damn dog.’ So we did!”

For Katie, reward and recognition is one of the most fulfilling parts of her job.

“Honestly, the coolest part of my job is that I get to reward people with things that they wouldn’t necessarily buy for themselves,” Katie said. “You get to do really awesome things for people.”

Katie created a certificate complete with paw prints, to make it official. She also submitted an expense report for this one-of-a-kind R&R.

“I think it’s my first pet R&R,” Katie said. “I included a picture of the transaction and a picture of the dog on the expense report.”

Delivering the surprise wasn’t easy, thanks to Hurricane Helene. As the storm battered Dayton, Katie was dealing with downed fences and a tree on a car. Still, she knew Harrison was picking up the puppy the next day.

“Face-to-face is the best form of communication,” Katie said, “But, with the storm, we had to adapt. Dave and I FaceTimed him.”

“I was definitely surprised,” Harrison added. “At first, I wasn’t going to tell my son, Reagan, but then I was like, you know what? I’ll let him know that way he can pick out toys.”

Harrison and his son named the dog Shiloh because they adopted him in Shiloh, Ohio.

Harrison has been with The Connor Group for more than three years, and has worked with Katie for one year. Since they met, Katie has been consistently coaching him on communication and customer service response. This training is paying off, as he has completed over 2,600 work orders this year alone. His efforts have also contributed to the impressive 4.17 customer survey score at Hunters Chase.

“Customers are leaving review after review saying things like: Harrison did an excellent job. He was professional and quickly fixed the problem. He should get a raise,” Katie said.

Katie also praised his leadership and coaching style with turn tech Mason Fraley.

“Harrison is someone you can always go to if you need help or have a question. Together, he and Mason manage tasks effectively and consistently meet their set objectives. Their dedication to taking care of residents and maintaining a positive attitude truly sets them apart,” Katie shared.

As Katie splits her time between two properties, she’s confident in Harrison and Mason’s ability to get the job done.

“They’re communicating with me even when I’m not there,” Katie added. “I don’t have to worry about not being physically present because they will do what they’re supposed to do.”

Whether it’s R&R or coaching and development from Katie and Dave, the support makes a difference.

“They just care about their people, whatever we need,” Harrison said. “As long as you communicate with them, they’ll do their best to help you.”

“I just love Harrison,” Katie added. “He’s wonderful. He’s not my Dave Peacock, but he is pretty damn close.”
